Texas Comptroller recognizes City of Irving for fiscal transparency

For the fourth consecutive year, the City of Irving has earned the Gold Leadership Circle Award, the highest level a city can achieve, from the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts for outstanding financial transparency. The award was launched in 2009 to recognize local governments across Texas that are meeting a high level of online financial transparency by providing residents with a clear and consistent picture of spending in a user-friendly format.

“The City of Irving deeply values financial integrity and transparency,” Irving City Manager Tommy Gonzalez said. “Our staff works hard to ensure financial information is accurate, current and accessible to anyone who visits our website.”

As one of five cities in the state to have earned a AAA bond rating from both Standard and Poor’s and Moody’s, transparency has been a standard in Irving.

“Irving was one of the first cities to receive the Gold Leadership Circle Award, and now has done so for four years in a row. I appreciate the work the city staff has done in posting spending records to our web page and thus ensuring greater accountability to the city’s taxpayers,” Irving CFO Max Duplant said.

While the Gold Leadership Award is the highest level, a Silver award is awarded to cities that are making progress towards increasing the level of transparency, and the Bronze award is given to cities that are just beginning their transparency efforts.
