Irving will host its annual Juneteenth Celebration at the Jackie Townsell Bear Creek Heritage Center, 3925 Jackson St. This year’s event will feature outdoor activities and entertainment. There is no cost to attend. For more than 20 years, the city has organized a Juneteenth event, commemorating the date that Texans first learned of President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation.

Old Red Schoolhouse Exhibit
The Irving Independent School District built its first school, a three-story, red-brick building in 1913. For decades, all of Irving’s schoolchildren attended classes in the building known affectionately as “Old Red.” Please join the Irving Heritage Society and the Irving Archives at the Central Library for the unveiling of the Old Red Schoolhouse painting and recognition of its creator, Irving artist and historian Pete Fernandez.
