Nimitz High School Junior Brandon De Anda recently traveled to Austin to participate in the Bill of Rights Institute's "Citizen Bee."The bee is hosted by the Texas State Bar and funded by the Hatton Sumner Foundation.
Students from across the state participated in the bee answering questions about prominent figures in United States History, the Constitution, key legislation, landmark Supreme Court Cases, and current events. Brandon placed 4th in the overall competition and won $250 dollars. He also became the first Nimitz High School student to qualify for the "Civic Discussion." Civic Discussion allows the top four contestants to discuss key primary source documents involving court cases and legislation designed to protect citizen's rights.
