Community Emergency Response Team Training
Irving residents are encouraged to receive emergency training by becoming a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) member. The two-day class is being offered from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sep. 15 and 22 at the Fire and Police Training Academy, 2603 Esters Road. The training will equip participants with knowledge and life-sustaining skills. Topics included range from disaster preparedness to fire safety and terrorism response. Participants must be able to perform physical activities, possess a valid driver’s license and pass a background check. Space is limited. PAWS for Reading
Children, grades K through 6, can read to a trained therapy dog and practice their comprehension skills in a fun and interactive environment every third Sunday of the month at the Valley Ranch Library, 401 Cimarron Trail. Please come join the fun at Irving's Heritage Park Building, 217 South Main Street. All women educators are welcome to attend to learn more about the organization.

Archery Clinic for ages 10-18 years old
The Irving Police Athletic/Activities League (IPAL) is offering free archery clinics at IPAL, 1550 Rock Island Road. The clinic is with no registration required but parents must sign a waiver. Participants may attend one or all clinics.

Talk Like a Pirate Day
Calling all landlubbers! Come dressed up in pirate attire and play pirate trivia and most importantly, learn to talk like a pirate at the East Branch Library, 440 S. Nursery Road in an event featuring the Mango Language Database. Prizes will be awarded to those who dress up. Free for all ages. Call 972-721-3722 for more information.

Irving International Women’s Consortium Event
Irving International Women’s Consortium and North Lake College Cordially invite you to the 6th Annual International Potluck: Food for thought, international food, music, entertainment, poetry and door prizes. This event is located at North Lake College – Student Life Center – Room H200, 5001 N. MacArthur Blvd., Irving, TX 75038. This is a free event, but you will need a ticket to attend.

VFW Fish Fry
The Men's Auxiliary of VFW 2494 will hold their monthly Fish Fry. Dinner includes a generous portion of fish along with french fries, cole slaw, beans and hushpuppies at a cost of just $8 per plate. Immediately following dinner, a brief ceremony will be held commemorating POW-MIA Day. The public is invited to attend. For more information call the Post at 972-790-1611.
