Community Emergency Response Team Training

Irving residents are encouraged to receive emergency training by becoming a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) member. The two-day class is being offered at the Fire and Police Training Academy, 2603 Esters Road. The training will equip participants with knowledge and life-sustaining skills. Topics included in this hands-on training range from disaster preparedness to fire safety and terrorism response. Participants must be able to perform physical activities, possess a valid driver’s license and pass a background check. To register or for more information, contact Nick Robison at 972-721-2184.

Ride to the Vietnam Wall

In observance of POW-MIA day, VFW Post 2494 Irving and Auxiliaries will hold their annual "Ride to the Wall" located in Fair Park. The group will be led by motorcycle riders who are members of the Post along with other vehicles. They will leave Post 2494 and ride to Fair Park where a brief ceremony will be held at the Vietnam Wall. Upon returning to the Post, food and refreshments will be available. Anyone wishing to participate in the ride, contact the Post at 972-790-1611 for further information. VFW Post 2494 is located at 3375 Belt Line Road, just south of Shady Grove.

Money Masters

Learn how to develop good money habits and succeed far into the future at the Valley Ranch Library, 401 Cimarron Trail. Open to youth, grades 6 and up. Parents are encouraged to attend with teens. Space is limited. Money Masters is presented as part of the Success Zone. For more information or to register, call 972-721-4669.

Women’s Defense Class

Irving PAL is hosting four-day rape aggression defense class for women, ages 13 years and older at the Irving Police Training Academy, 2603 Esters Road. Participants also can sign up on the day of first class. The Rape Aggression Defense System is a program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques. The comprehensive, women-only course begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance, while progressing to the basics of hands-on defense training. Each participant must provide a $20 donation for kids’ programs, sign three waivers, and attend all four sessions. For more information, call 972-721-2544/3520.

Performance by Daniel Rodriquez

Daniel Rodriguez will captivate his audience in concert at the Carpenter Performance Hall, 3333 N. MacArthur Blvd. America’s Beloved Tenor Daniel Rodriguez was the New York City cop who helped bring the country an uplifting spirit of promise and hope with his stirring rendition of “God Bless America” after the September 11th terrorist attacks. Tickets can be purchased by calling the box office at 972-252-ARTS.

Father and son co-chairmen Larry Clements and Chris Clements are making grand plans for a special fundraising event you won’t want to miss. Save the date and plan to join us at the Four Seasons Resort and Club – Dallas at Las Colinas! Funds raised at this event support Irving Cares throughout the year, and demand for programs has increased agency-wide over last year.
