14th Annual Sports Extravaganza
More than 275 athletes with visual impairments are expected for the 14th Annual Sports Extravaganza. These students will be representing up to 55 school districts in the State of Texas at Nimitz High School. A new event, Sports and Recreation Skills for Students with Multiple and Visual Impairments, was introduced for athletes ages 6-12. This activity promotes modification and adaptation of basic skills in ball striking, kicking, grasp and release, and mobility. In addition, sensory experiences through a multitude of actions can be explored. Annual Wildflower Seeding At Moore Road Park in Coppell
Gather your family, friends, scout troop, and neighbors and come to Moore Road Park to participate in beautifying Coppell! There is no cost to participate and pre-registration is not required. Everything you need is provided, just come on out to the park! The Trinity Trails System, part of the Texas Trails Network, encourages communities to plant sections of their trail corridors to reflect the open prairies that were once a vital part of North Central Texas. Our seeding event will produce beautiful blooms in the spring that are reminiscent of the flowers once prevalent in the Coppell area. Seeds will be spread along the trail on the north side of Moore Road Park to Andy Brown Park East.

Coppell Farmers Market Holds Food Day for Kids
For the second year in a row, the Coppell Farmers Market will be observing Food Day, as will many other farmers markets across the nation. This year, the focus will be on the youth of the area. Coppell Farmers Market is located at the corner of Bethel & South Coppell. The DFW Truck Farm, a vegetable garden planted in the bed of a pickup truck, will be present at the event. To continue the theme of encouraging kids to learn to cook and eat whole foods, Victoria Hooker of Two Chefs' salsa booth will have a booth set up for kids on “eating from the rainbow.”

Oak Fest Event
The Coppell Parks and Recreation Department will host the annual fall event Oak Fest at Andy Brown Park East, 260 E. Parkway Blvd. This year's performing artists include Maiden Texas and Emerald City. This fun, family event includes miniature train rides, face painting, live bands, bounce houses, and much more. The haunted fun run festivities, including a costume contest, begin promptly at 3p.m. A fantastic slate of festival food is available for purchase including BBQ sandwiches, turkey legs, funnel cakes, hot dogs, hamburgers and more. Cancer aid and Research breakfast
The Ladies Auxiliary to VFW 2494 Irving will serve breakfast. A regular breakfast includes eggs cooked to order, bacon, sausage, hashbrown potatoes, biscuits and gravy. The public is invited to attend. All proceeds from the breakfast will be placed in the Auxiliary funds to be donated to Cancer Aid & Research. Make-A-Wish Golf Tournament
Register now to participate in the Irving Police Association Benefit Golf Classic at the Brook Haven Country Club, 3333 Golfing Green Drive in Dallas. The entry fee is $95 per golfer. Proceeds will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Prize information is noted on the registration form. Fairies Flip Through North Lake
North Lake College (NLC) students will perform Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream in the Performance Hall. The comedy begins nightly and is free to the public. North Lake's interpretation, however, offers a fresh, acrobatic, twist. North Lake College is located at 5001 N. MacArthur Blvd, Irving. VNA Bereavement Luncheon
The Visiting Nurse Association will be hosting its monthly bereavement luncheon at the Church of the Incarnation on 3966 McKinney Avenue in Dallas. Funeral director John Ebey will be speaking on “Why We Celebrate and Remember.” There is no cost to attend the luncheon, but reservations are requested and can be made through October 23 by calling 214-689-2633. VNA's bereavement luncheons offer supportive company from friendly and understanding people to individuals who have suffered the loss of a loved one.
