TARRANT COUNTY - July 10 at approximately 9:06 p.m. Tarrant County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance in the 7200 block of Retta-Mansfield Road. When they arrived they found Brandon Spencer, an off duty Irving police officer, had been shot. He was transported to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Ft. Worth.
Mr. and Mrs. Spencer had been going through a divorce. According to witnesses’ statements, Mr. Spencer was working on a lawnmower when he was approached by Mrs. Spencer, who had a handgun. He began running, and she began firing. He was hit twice. He ran to a neighbor’s house, and the neighbor called 911. Mrs. Spencer was gone prior to the deputies’ arrival.
Shortly thereafter, another call came in from Johnson County Sheriff's Deputies reporting that a pickup truck had been found occupied by a female who was unresponsive. Tarrant County Sherriff’s Deputies were dispatched to that location in the 6100 block of County Road 608. When they arrived, they were able to verify that the occupant was Mrs. Spencer and that she was deceased as the result of what appeared to be a self inflicted gunshot wound.
Officer Brandon Spencer has worked for the Irving Police Department for 18 years and is currently assigned to the Investigative Services Bureau.
