AUSTIN, TX - The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Game Warden Dive Team has recovered the body of McKenzie Wheeler Mueller, a 23-year-old man, who drowned on July 3 in Lake Carolyn. The victim, who was not wearing a lifejacket, drowned while paddle boarding on the lake.
Irving Police and Fire Department conducted search efforts for several days but were unsuccessful due to murky water conditions. After exhausting all local resources, officials requested that the TPWD dive team be called in based on its extensive training and experience in conducting recoveries in less than ideal conditions. Using side scan sonar, game wardens were able to identify a location of interest and the dive team was able to recover the body of the victim within two-and-a-half hours.
“We are pleased we were able to bring closure to a family who experienced a tremendous loss,” said Maj. David Murray, supervisor for the 47-county North Texas region of TPWD’s Law Enforcement Division.
