Extreme summer temperatures did not stop dozens of young, aspiring athletes from showing off their football abilities at the NFL’s Punt, Pass and Kick event at Sam Houston MS on Aug. 3.
The interactive event, hosted by the Irving Police Athletic League (PAL), welcomed children and teen's ages six to fifteen to compete against other participants in their designated age group.
“We came up with a few ideas for the kids in the community throughout the summer months,” explained Officer Bazley, the event’s coordinator. “It’s great; the kids come out; they’re enjoying themselves and that’s what we strive to achieve. We want to have everyone come out here, work together, and get along as a community.”
The NFL Punt, Pass and Kick, now in its 52nd season, is coordinated with the Dallas Cowboys Franchise. Two winners from each age group will advance from the local competition and move on to the sectionals in October. If they place first in the sectionals round, the young athletes will advance to the team championship event and the nationals' competition and will receive the opportunity to be recognized at a Cowboy’s playoff game.
