Rejuvenating a city can be a long and costly enterprise, but one man is trying to reinvent Dallas for the cost of a couple of park benches and folding chairs.
When the Theater Communication Group held its national convention in Dallas during June, University of Dallas professor, Stefan Novinski, set out on a journey to rediscover what excites him about theater and why he loves Dallas. He ended up with a theater company named PlaySite that specializes in site-specific productions.
His inaugural play, Annie’s Baker’s The Aliens, was staged in an Uptown parking lot.
“I don’t think this play had ever been done where, in a sense, it called to be done,” Novinski said. “It takes place in a porch outside a coffee shop, like the employees’ smoking place behind the coffee shop next to the dumpster and the mops.
