Ft. Worth-based Bob Griggs & Associates will spearhead the search for a new superintendent of Irving Independent School District after former superintendent Dana Bedden stepped down from the top post in July.
The Irving ISD board of trustees voted 4-2 Aug. 12 in a special meeting to hire Griggs & Associates for the job. President Steven Jones and trustees Larry Stipes, Randy Randle and Lee Mosty voted for the firm. Trustees Valerie Jones and Gail Condor Wells voted against.
"Based on the longevity that they've been doing this and the experience that they bring to the table, I just can't get out of my mind their track record and their experience," Stipes said.
The firm has done searches on behalf of the Eagle-Mountain-Saginaw, Grand Prairie, Southlake- Carroll and Pflugerville school districts. In total, the firm has placed about 250 candidates into superintendent positions across the state.
The other possible recruiting firm was Waterford.
Bedden resigned July 1 at a special meeting after May's election created a majority of critics of Bedden on the board. Bedden was hired in 2010 and his salary was just under $300,000.
