If you’ve noticed more Irving police officers enforcing speeding and seatbelt violations in recent months, you will continue to see more of the boys in blue after the department received a $161,000 grant.
The Texas Department of Transportation awarded the department the $161,730 Selective Traffic Program (STEP) Comprehensive grant. The STEP grant pays for overtime work by local law enforcement.
The grant also means more officers will be available to enforce driving while intoxicated laws. That enforcement will be supplemented with a public education campaign that will start Oct. 1.
