The Star Savers Program is a student-run branch of Las Colinas Federal Credit Union. The branch is located at Valley Ranch Elementary (VRE) in the Cafeteria and it is exactly like a real bank with one exception - the employees are fourth grade students.
Other grade levels are encouraged to participate by opening accounts and making deposits. The fourth grade learners at VRE began a student-run bank in the fall of 2004. They are celebrated the tenth anniversary of the VRE Star Savers on Sept. 20. Learners from the school are members and have set up savings accounts with the credit union. On the first and third Friday of each month, these members can bring money to deposit into their account. The fourth grade learners have real job positions as tellers, bookkeepers, customer service, marketing and advertising, office managers, and security guards in the bank.
