Second SH 114/Loop 12 direct connect ramp to open Saturday
On June 23 beginning at 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., the contractor will remove traffic barrier and barrels and add permanent striping to move traffic into a new configuration and then open the ramp. During this time, northbound Loop 12 main lanes will be closed and traffic will exit at Texas Plaza, remain on the northbound frontage road and re-enter Loop 12 just north of SH 114.
Once the main lanes of northbound Loop 12 are striped, traffic will be shifted into the far left lane. At this time the SH 114 exit and northbound Loop 12 entrance from SH 114 will be closed for the remaining duration. This is expected to begin around Noon on Saturday. Detours will be in place.
Delays are expected and motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes around this area. Police will be on site to direct traffic during the switch.
This is a milestone event toward the completion of the $224 million project to reconstruct the Loop 12/SH 114 interchange. The consortium of Zachry Construction Corp. and Mario Sinacola and Sons began work on the project in February of 2009. The project is estimated to be complete this summer.
The project includes widening Loop 12 to eight lanes and adding direct connection ramps from SH 114 to Loop 12 to improve traffic flow and increase capacity in that area.
TxDOT encourages motorists to be alert and observe all warning and detour signs in place during this time as crews work diligently to complete this work as soon and safely as possible.
