Coppell PD offers free VIN etching for residents

Coppell Police Officers will permanently etch the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the windows of your vehicle free of charge on Oct.27 from 8 a.m. to noon. The application only takes a few minutes to complete.

VIN etching is the discreet and permanent engraving of a vehicle’s federally registered VIN onto a vehicle’s windows. Cars and trucks are usually stolen for individual parts or resale value. VIN etching is often seen as a deterrent to thieves because it makes it harder for them to sell stolen windows and also makes it more difficult to dispose of the vehicle once it has been stolen. VIN etching may also increase the odds of recovery of a stolen vehicle by police.

High-end wheels may be etched as well.

Many insurance companies offer a discount off the comprehensive portion of your insurance if your vehicle is protected by VIN etching.

Etchings are available at Go Express Wash, 720 S. MacArthur Blvd. For more information, contact Sergeant Eric Debus at 972-304-7072.
