Former NSHS student named Defensive Player of the Week

On Oct. 8, former Newman Smith High School Trojan, Randall Joyner, was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week by a panel of the league’s media. Joyner currently plays for Southern Methodist University.  Starting for an injured teammate, Joyner notched a team and career-high 14 tackles and recorded two interceptions as SMU shutout UTEP in El Paso, 17-0.
