Kathleen Holmes Dunham Marks
Kathy, as she was known to her friends and family, passed away peacefully in her sleep Saturday, October 6, 2012. She had bravely battled emphysema and lung cancer for the past two years and was hospitalized for the past few months. In the end, the spirit was strong, but the vessel could no longer carry her. She was born in Dayton, Ohio March 10, 1946 and spent her early years in LaPorte, Indiana. She then moved to California where she graduated from Ukiah High School. She went to college and ended up in Sacramento where she found employment. It was there that she became a member of the Church of Scientology in 1972. She was active as a parishioner and staff member ever since. She held many positions including being a counselor, where some of her most cherished moments were the time she spent in working with the children of the Church members. Her work over those many years has enriched the lives of hundreds. Kathy also spent many years doing bookkeeping for the church as well as being an executive secretary to the President of one of the local Missions of the Church. It was in this capacity where she traveled with the president to the sister missions in Wichita, Kansas and Memphis, Tenn. Part of her duties including being the nanny to the president’s children, helping them to grow up to become productive citizens. She moved with her husband, David, to Irving, Texas, in early 2009, when he was requested to accept a senior pastor position with the Church that was opening new premises there. As she had done previously, she continued her work as a bookkeeper for both the church and the private sector until her health forced her to retire. She will be dearly missed by all of the people whose lives she has touched. Kathy is survived by her loving husband, David; as well as her sisters Pat (Ken) Belveal and their children, Ken (Doe), Carey, Mathew (Alison) and Nickolas (Michele); Tracy (Michael) Adams and their children, Devon, Ian, Gray and Kayla; as well as many grand nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her father, Marshall Dunham; and mother, Betty Estes. There will be a memorial service and celebration of her life on Sunday, October 14 at 7 p.m. at the Church of Scientology in Irving, 451 Decker Dr.
