Samuel Christopher Smith

10-20-12 obi photo Samuel Christopher Smith smSamuel Christopher Smith was born to George and Bennie Smith on August 12, 1937 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He attended Catholic High School and graduated in 1954. He attended school at SMU, after he moved to Dallas at the age of 18. He began his career at the Dallas Times Herald in the advertising department, and there he met the love of his life Carla and married her in 1965. They moved to Irving shortly after and raised their family. Sam had a long career in the advertising industry and in the mid 1980's opened his own executive search agency. He and Carla loved Irving and worked hard to make it a strong community. After retiring, Sam served on the Irving Convention and Visitors Bureau and was elected to two terms on the Irving City Council. He served on various boards and was a member of many organizations including Irving Rotary, The Arts Council Board and the Baylor Irving Hospital Board. He also served as a deacon at his church for many years. Sam joins his wife Carla, who preceded him in death last year. Sam is survived by his brother George, and his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who loved him dearly. Memorial Services to be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Plymouth Park United Methodist Church, 1615 West Airport Freeway, Irving. Family requests memorials to American Cancer Society.

10-20-12 obituary photo Sutter Lora smLora Josephine Sutter, of Irving, passed away Monday, October 15, 2012. She was born May 5, 1926 in Dallas. She is preceded in death by husbands Roy Joe Avrett and Edward Sutter, son Roy Lee Avrett, and 3 brothers. Survivors include her daughters Pam Deskin, and Kathy Troutman; grandchildren Roy Joe, Denise, Shannon, Chase, and Lora Melissa; 10 great grandchildren; and sister Ann Hambrick. Funeral services were held at 2 PM Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at Brown’s Memorial Chapel. Burial followed at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
