Larry (Major Lawrence or “ML”) Davis
Larry (Major Lawrence or “ML”) Davis, 82, lost his battle with heart failure on October 23, 2012 in Irving, Texas. Larry was born to Major and Mary Davis on June 9, 1930 in Tyler, Texas and was raised in Chandler, Texas where he graduated from Chandler High School in 1947. He received a BBA degree in Accounting from Texas A&M Commerce in 1951, and completed his graduate studies at SMU. He was married to Bettye Sue Saylors (aka, “Soupy”) in 1950. Larry served as the Vice President of Finance for Southland Financial Corporation for 15 years. After retirement, he started a CPA firm and became a trusted advisor to many clients. In his spare time, Larry enjoyed spending time with his family and collecting stamps. His children were the light of his life and he was so proud of their accomplishments – Dana as the owner of a successful dance studio and John as an honor graduate from Texas A&M and employed by Lockheed Martin as an engineer. Larry leaves this personal message to his friends and associates, “I send a heartfelt goodbye to all that I’ve had the privilege of knowing, many of which I still fondly remember your names, but I lost contact through the passage of time. I hope to see you in the dimension not comprehended by the human intellect.” Larry is survived by his bride of 62 years, Bettye Sue Davis; his daughter and her son in Irving, Dana Davis-Bailey and Benjamin Bailey, his son and his family in Keller, John Davis, Clare Davis, and Caitlin Davis; his brother, Keith Davis of Chandler, Texas; and by his cousins, Dr. William and Lenora Clyde of Tyler, Texas and Joe Royce of Houston, Texas. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at 11 AM Friday, October 26, 2012 at Holy Family of Nazareth Catholic Church, 2323 Cheyenne St. in Irving. A Rosary was held 6 p.m. Thursday at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home and the family continued to receive friends until 8 PM.
