More than 100 area golfers polished their putters and took up the challenge of the Brandel Chamblee Irving Charity Golf Tournament, hosted at the TPC Las Colinas at the Four Season Resort and Club Dallas on June 7. The inaugural tournament was designed to benefit four of Irving’s youth related charities: the Irving YMCA, Irving Schools Foundation, Irving Healthcare Foundation and Irving Las Colinas Rotary Club. Prior to the tournament itself, a large Golf Kick-Off Event was held at Sfuzzi Las Colinas on June 6.
This ‘mega tournament’ grew out of smaller tournaments which the charities have been hosting for several years.
“I started [our original golf tournament] about 10 years ago in conjunction with Doug Fox, the Irving YMCA and the Irving Rotary Club,” said Andy Nadel, the tournament’s Co-Chair. “We just could not grow the event much past $50,000. Once we underwrote the golf, we maybe returned $30,000 to the community. We reached out to other community members including David Pfaff at the Irving Schools Foundation (the event’s other Co-Chair) and John Drake at the Irving Healthcare foundation to collaborate and make the event bigger. We are all about helping kids.
