A few surprises meet fans and players at IISD basketball tournament

Stakes were high at the end of the IISD middle school basketball regular season that left Sam Houston the overall frontrunner with leads in the 7^th and 8^th grade boys ‘B’ brackets along with the 8^th grade girls ‘A’ bracket. William B. Travis was not far behind with leads in 7^th grade boys ‘A’ bracket and girls’ 8^th grade ‘B’ bracket.

Both the ‘B’ side tournament held Jan. 31 – Feb. 2 and the ‘A’ side tournament that ran Feb. 7-9 made a mess of these rankings, however, with solid Lady Bird Johnson clinching every ‘B’ team victory. Stephen F. Austin made out with the 8^th grade boys ‘A’ bracket, while both Travis and Houston managed to hold onto a little of the glory they had going into the post-season. Travis took the 7^th grade boys’ ‘A’ at Travis, and Houston took both 7^th and 8^th girls’ ‘A’ brackets at Bowie and Houston respectively.
